Employment Minister to visit Norwich to see Norwich For Jobs success

In one of her first Parliamentary Question times as a backbencher, Chloe Smith MP has spoken of the success of Norwich For Jobs and praised the “great team” who are driving Norwich’s youth unemployment down.

The campaign’s latest local figures are to be published later this week, but the campaign has already helped hundreds of young people into work in eight months with the support of scores of local firms.

Esther McVey promised to visit Norwich to see for herself upon questioning by Chloe, MP for Norwich North, during Parliamentary Questions on Work and Pensions today (Monday).

Chloe comments:  “I am incredibly proud of what the great team of local people have achieved through Norwich For Jobs, and they deserve recognition in the House of Commons and across the country.  I founded the campaign in January this year because I don’t want to see a lost generation;  I knew that we could do something about it in Norwich if we put our mind to it.  We are proud to be able to say that we are getting results for our city but we need local firms’ help to go much further.  If you can pledge to help young people by taking them on in your organisation, go to our site www.norwichforjobs.org.uk and press the “pledge” button today.”

The team is proud that Tower Hamlets has adopted a similar scheme, inspired by Norwich, and even Ipswich is interested…
